In spite of the adage to write what you know, Anne Marie Pace has never been a vampire, a bear, a ballerina, or a mouse with a spyglass. She is the author of a number of published and upcoming picture books, including the VAMPIRINA BALLERINA series, MOUSE CALLS, GROUNDHUG DAY, and SUNNY’S TOW TRUCK SAVES THE DAY.
Writing for Kids!
I have always been a reader. I have always been a writer. I thought that loving reading and writing meant I should be an English teacher. I taught middle and high school for about five years. I quit teaching after the first of my four children was born, a decision which gave me more time to rediscover the books I had always loved best, the ones with the Js on their spines. Once I realized that my love for writing and my love for children’s books meant I should be writing for children, I never looked back.
My Books
The best picture books have an almost magical interplay between the texts and images. Seeing what an illustrator does with my words is one of the best parts of writing picture books.
